My latest obsession has been watches, I think they are one of the greatest accessories you can have (next to colored nail polish). Swatch has recently launched their Colour Codes Collection, and with their recent launch, they have opened up a small competition between magazines, V, Dazed and Confused, Another, P.O.P, Wallpaper, and Nylon. It is up to these mags to interpret the collection in an editorial story, and its up to us the people to vote. The collection is young and fun and all but Another magazine portrayed the youthful feel of the watches, but I still like what they did. P.O.P mag would have to be my least favorite, they just have too much going on, my focus doesn’t go towards the watch. I am however torn between the spread from Nylon and V, they both embodied the fun spirit of this collection.
The new mother Giselle Bundchen looked better than ever in the April issue of Vogue US. I was happy to see she was still sporting that pregnancy glow, she had a very serene and natural look to her. In the interview she discusses how it is to be a mother and how it has affected her modeling career and her priorities in life. I thought it was pretty humorous that Giselle interviewed with Vogue in her home in Boston while breast-feeding. If it was anyone else I would have been grossed out, but it’s Giselle, she’s perfect! Read the full interview here.
So I don’t know where to begin on this music video! I loved EVERYTHING about it! From the fashion to the settings to the cars to EVERYTHING. A lot of people complained that the video had nothing to do with the song, and this may be the case, but that does not take away from the sadistic and twisted story line which I adored. I loved the fact that Lady Gaga bought Beyonce (the music industry’s “angel”) to the dark side with her. I found myself ogling over the fashion and scenery rather than paying attention to the song. And on my last note, I thought Beyonce did a great job at channeling her inner Gaga!!
Don’t be confused with Justin Rose the golf player; this is Justin Rose the producer, learn and remember the name! Ryan Leslie earned some of his fame from posting youtube videos of him creating beats, it is only right that he has a contest for other young producers to show their talent. Justin Rose, Producer of The Phli Hi Club, and friend of Muse.Me.Muse has entered the contest, call us bias, but his competition isn’t looking to strong. The winner of this competition will have their video featured on RyanLeslie.com, as well as his other networking sites, and also the chance to spend a day with Leslie in the studio. So everyone go vote for Justin Rose! Ryan Leslie will chose the ultimate winner out of the 15 contestants with the most votes. Voting is from March 13th to March 18th, tell your friends, tell your co-workers, tell your parents Vote for Justin Rose!
We all know Calvin Klein is known for their X-Rated commercials, so when they came out with their latest mens underwear called X Underwear I could only expect for them to have some fun with the name. The commercial included Twilight’s Kellan Luts, True Blood’s Mehcad Brooks, Japanense soccer player Hidetoshi Nakata and Spanish tennis star Fernando Verdasco, and I must say they could not have picked a sexier group of men to sport the new underwear. I watched the commercial about 4 times before I was able to peel my eyes away from the computer screen. There’s nothing better than sexy greased up men in nothing but underwear talking to you naughty! Enjoy!
Today Marc Jacobs presented his fall 2010 Louis Vuitton collection for Paris Fashion Week. What separated his line from others was not an extravagant runway, or avant-garde clothing, but his models. Jacobs decided to cast models of all different ages, shapes and ethnicities. The models ranged from 46-year-old Elle Macpherson to 21-year-old Coco Rocha. He bought up a great point, “Designers are always talking about how they design for women, and then you look at our runways and there no girls over 20″. I thought it was great for Marc Jacobs to show that his clothing is made for all different types of women.
I must share my thoughts about the collection itself, I hated it! I felt it was a mix between grandma’s sweater/couture/old fashion/table-cloth and anything else in between, if that makes sense. I didn’t enjoy one piece in the collection, the pieces did not mesh and I thought it was all over the place. I actually happen to be a huge fan of Louis Vuitton, but as for his latest collection, not so much.
More than just the fashion community felt the loss of Alexander McQueen, he wasn’t just a designer, but an ingenious artist. His final collection was displayed in a rather low-key fashion, which is rather different than the grand show McQueen viewers are used to. What the show lacked in grandness, the clothes definitely made up for. Every piece had magnificent, great detail; according to WWD his inspiration came from Byzantine art, Old Master paintings, and the carvings of Grinling Gibbons. His inspiration showed in every piece, from the bronze, spiked caps, to the venue. Each garment is artistically beautiful, farewell McQueen, you left us with an impressively breath-taking collection.
Viktor and Rolf presentation of their Fall 2010 collection at Paris Fashion Week was nothing like I’ve ever seen before on the runway. Instead of dressing the models backstage, the designers decided to dress them on the runway. It was a very clever show, and not something every designer can pull off. Not to mention I love the line, which is mostly all black. This seems to be a trend for this season, and I am loving it!
Yesterday the 82nd Annual Academy Awards took place. Personally I am not a huge fan of the award show itself because it is just way too uptight and old fashion for me, but of course that did not stop me from tuning in to see all the celebrities at their finest. I must say I was very pleased with how most of the celebs appeared on the runway. There were certainly a few disappointments on the red carpet I must say, but for the most part it was definitely one of the finer years for the award show.
Yesterday evening the annual FUSION Fashion Show took place, designers from The Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons The New School Of Design battled for the title of Best School, Best Designer, and Honorable mention. It was great to see the skill and talent of young designers; Alexander Wang, Prabal Gurung, and Jillian Lewis are some of the notable FUSION alumni. With a 3 to 2 vote, FIT won as an overall school, and I definitely agree with the judges decision. Both schools have phenomenally talented designers, but the FIT designers showed more creativity. It will be interesting to see which of these budding designers become global household names.
So after news broke out that the girls of the MTV series Jersey Shore recently did a photo-shoot for Harpers Bazaar I immediately started to look for photos to share with you guys. Unfortunately not enough pictures have been released, but look forward to a post in the very near future! But as I was looking for their pictures, I came across a photo-shoot the boys from Jersey Shore did with Terry Richardson a week ago for Interview Magazine, jackpot! The pictures played on things they were known for such as Mike for his abs and Pauly D. for his hairspray. This was exactly what one would expect from Terry Richardson, fun, humor, and cleverness. Fist pumps!!
Diesel has been a favorite of mine for many years, their clothes embody the beautifully raw sense of freedom, and the attitude of being able to do what you want. Their Spring/Summer 2010 campaign, Be Stupid. is perfection for the spirit of Diesel. So I may be a little late with this campain, but who cares, I love what they’ve done! It makes me want to just go out and do all of the crazy things I think of.
I wanted to wait until I came across the full Prada Fantasy lookbook SS’10 to share it with you, and now that I have, I am glad I decided to hold off. The lookbook is really creative and unique, and it definitely got me excited for the collection. I was impressed by their short film “First Spring” that introduced us to their SS’10 Menswear collection, and I did not expect anything less from this season’s lookbook. Enjoy.
Kate Moss is accustomed to being in the spotlight, in front of a camera, but now the model is exchanging her high heels for ballet shoes. She will be filming her ballet, with partner Mikhail Baryshnikov and premiering it as a short film at a fundraiser. Moss does have previous training in ballet, but she will begin extensive training next week for the next 3 months. In 2007 we saw Moss execute her dancing skills in The White Stripes music video, and I thought she did a great job, so I am looking forward to see what she has to offer us in this ballet, which is reported to be titled Baryshnimoss.
